“Should [our dog] Jill Hadassah have not enjoyed Trig’s playing with her, guess it would have reminded us another important lesson – sometimes life jumps up and bites you in the okole, but you don't stop moving and baby you just Shake It Off,” Palin in a post for NBC’s TODAY Show. The statement cribs lyrics from Swift’s hit song, “Shake It Off.” The battle began after Palin posted photos last week showing Trig stepping on the dog in order to reach the kitchen counter. PETA released a strongly-worded statement condemning the former governor and challenging her parenting skills. “It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said.
“Then again, PETA, along with everyone else, is used to the hard-hearted, seeming obliviousness of this bizarrely callous woman,” Palin first pushed back against the criticism on Saturday, suggesting that they were animated by politics rather than concern for the dog. She also took the opportunity to take a swipe at President Obama. “Dear PETA, Chill.
At least Trig didn’t eat the dog,” Palin wrote in a Saturday. “Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?” Palin said in the updated statement Monday that her family adopted the dog for Trig Palin, who has Down Syndrome, and dismissed the group’s accusations of animal cruelty. 'I grew up with dogs who were part of the family; a big part,' she wrote.
