Vw Mk1 Auto To Manual Swap
Posted : adminOn 4/15/2018Clutch bolted on, Manual Gearbox from a Mk2, but more recently a Mk1 fitted straight back on. Auto to Manual Conversion. May 22, 2015 This is an overview and timelapse video of one of my recent projects; I swapped a manual transmission into my 2002 Jetta TDI. The automatic transmission.
This isn't meant to be a How-To because I don't think this is really a DIY swap (although I'm sure the more hands on of you could do it hands down with a bit of time) but I just did one of these and I wanted to report on the things to watch out for and to let you know what was involved. Car was a 2006 MK4 Golf TDI PD with a 5 speed automatic and ESP ABS (which is rare), was converted to manual. The list below could apply to ALH cars also BTW. VR6 transmission bellhousing doesn't fit any 4cyl VW engine. Any 4cyl transmission will bolt on, 5 or 6 speed. So you could use a 1.8T (or 2. Jr Typing Tutor Crack. 0T for that matter) 6 speed transmission, you'll need the clutch/slave also.
Gear ratios will be stranger for a TDI but will bolt up. MKV 2.0t transmissions do not have a speed sensor nor do any mkv and up j/g/b transmission.you are aware that there is already a huge in depth thread outlining the auto to manual swap process right?also there are very few gasser manuals that would even be close to acceptable for TDI use. The one that comes to mind is ERR code 02M six speed, it has slightly better ratios than a stock 02j tdi trans.there may be a few more sixers that would suffice but any of the five speed gasser manuals will have you hating life in short order due to the high RPM's at cruising speed in fifth.
Hi guy's, I just bought a one owner 03 jetta tdi wagon in excellent condition with 150k on it The only bad, it is a automatic. I'm a Porsche technician at a dealer, there is also a VW dealer (same owner) on the lot. They have a 2000 golf tdi with 250k, in pretty bad shape and overheating problems and MANUAL transmission. I can buy this car for 1.2k. I'm thinking of swapping transmissions between both vehicles, fix the overheating issue, sell the golf and have a 5speed manual in my wagon. Any thoughts or advice?
How difficult is the electrical part of this conversion? Thank you, Tor.
